From our field to your yard: here’s how buying a tree works

You don’t choose a tree on a whim. It’s a decision that will be visible for years to come and helps define the character of your garden. That’s why at Joos Tree Nursery, we guide you through every purchase step by step, giving you the time, attention, and space you need to make your choice.

From your initial inspiration to the moment the tree takes root in your garden: these are the steps you’ll go through along the way.

Step 1: Get Oriented and Prepare

Many customers start their search online. On our website, you’ll find detailed information about tree types, shapes, and uses. If you’d like, you can also explore our “Unique Selection,” which features specific trees labeled with numbers. This gives you a good idea of what’s possible in advance—though seeing them with your own eyes is always the most valuable experience.

Step 2: A visit to the nursery

The heart of the selection process takes place at the nursery itself. A visit is completely non-binding and is mainly about exploring and finding inspiration. Surrounded by thousands of trees of all shapes and sizes, you can truly see the differences between species, structures, and silhouettes.

We take the time to look together, compare options, and answer your questions—not to rush into a decision, but to make the right choice.

Step 3: Filter by the field

When you see a tree that’s a good fit for your garden or project, you can mark it right away. You can do this all year round. We often visit various plots and lots within a radius of a few kilometers, always using our off-road vehicle. This gives you a complete picture of what’s available and the possibilities. Some customers even come back several times, because choosing simply takes time.

Step 4: Reserve a tree

Trees are planted during the planting season, which runs from November through April. Have you already made your choice? If so, the tree will simply remain at the nursery—securely planted in the ground and perfectly cared for—until it’s time to move it.

About one to two weeks before the scheduled planting date, the tree is called out. Then we begin preparing it for transport or pickup.

Step 5: Pick up or have it delivered

You can choose to pick up the tree yourself or have us arrange delivery. In that case, we’ll carefully coordinate the transport—using a crane if necessary—to ensure the tree arrives safely and properly at its new home.

What follows is the best part of the whole process: a tree that has been nurtured for years in our field finally finds its home in your garden.
